Our Philosophy
What is the CQC philosophy?  The CQC philosophy is based on the following observations:

(1) The citizen has the right to protect himself/herself and loved-
ones against criminal assault.

(2) The criminal selects his victims:  He chooses the victim, the time, the place and the circumstance which make his assault most likely to succeed.  The aware citizen must prepare himself/ herself against the most likely means of assault ? unarmed single or multiple assailants and assaults employing weapons (knives, guns or impact weapons.

(3) Defense against the criminal employing a weapon is best performed with a thorough and current
working knowledge in the use of the weapon in question.

(4) Effective use of a weapon in self defense may involve stopping threatened violence before it occurs as well as interrupting violence in progress.

(5) Every self defense encounter should be managed with only the Force Necessary to achieve a safe conclusion.  Actions should meet moral, ethical and legal standards.

(6) The law enforcement officer represents an important barrier against assault and should be summoned whenever feasible.  Once he/she has arrived, the aware citizen should cooperate and comply with the law enforcement officer voluntarily to enable a coordinated control of
violence with minimal injury.

(7) Any conflict is chaotic - unscripted and occurring at a speed that makes on the spot analysis and cognitive action selection improbable.  Your best chance of responding efficiently and appropriately derives from repetitive practice of realistic techniques and strategies that enable muscle memory responses - responses that can flow despite stress and without the delay associated with excessive thought.

(8) Placing yourself in the position of responding to a scenario that in real life could be deadly causes you to appreciate those who on a daily basis intercept deadly violence on our behalf - the police and the military.  As you evaluate your own response to the chaos of combat you realize the complexity of true conflict, becoming more empathetic and less critical.
